About this work
Created especially for the Tilburgs Kunstenaars Project 2026, this large-scale painting is loosely inspired by the sculptural forms of Henry Moore.
Three abstract, sculpture-like forms float against a deep black background, giving them an almost luminous presence. The painting combines oil paint with Musou Black, one of the darkest commercially available paints, creating a strong contrast between the coloured forms and the surrounding space.
Before starting the painting, Maikel designed the composition as a 3D scene, experimenting with the shapes, positioning, and lighting of the objects before translating the final arrangement into paint.
